The Pine Leaf Boys in Daugavpils


On behalf of the U.S. Embassy, we welcome you to experience Cajun music from the state of Louisiana, performed by the renowned young band “The Pine Leaf Boys”.  Their major concert at Kino Riga on April 8th is the signature musical event in the U.S. Embassy’s festival of American arts, “Made in the USA: ASV kultūras mēnesis. Aprīlis 2010”.

 

Essay Competition Sponsored by U.S. Embassy Riga in Honor of: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Black History Month


U.S. Embassy Riga is proud to sponsor this essay competition to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Winners will be announced in February, which has been designated Black History Month in the United States to celebrate the role(s) of African-Americans in U.S. history, culture, and society. Winners from each region will be candidates for the grand prize, the chance to participate in the 2010 Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows Summer Institute
 

Halloween in Svente


This year the Info USA Daugavpils celebrated Halloween at Svente Secondary School. We spoke about Halloween traditions and made Jack-o-lanterns, their light to protect the school from evil spirits and make brighter grey days of autumn.
 

Teachers' Day contest


October 5th – the final part of the contest “My English Teacher” which encouraged students to write an essay about their favorite teacher of English and thus win a present for their teachers on the Teachers’ Day. 

 

Hispanic Heritage Month in the Info USA Daugavpils


9th September 2009 - the Info USA Daugavpils organized an event dedicated to the Hispanic Heritage Month. 19 students form Daugavpils State Gymnasium and their teacher Inese Barkovska participated in the event. Its first part was a presentation on the Hispanic contributions to the U.S. society and culture. After a brief discussion students made a poster showing the Hispanic heritage in the USA.
